Local heroes win free lasik eye surgery

Panama City - Seven local heroes will soon be able to see more clearly. The Eye Center of North Florida selected firefighters, police officers, nurses, EMS personnel, and active or past military war veterans for free lasik eye surgery.

The men and women had to write essays explaining the difficulties they experience wearing glasses and how lasik surgery would benefit them.

For retired Navy veteran Laura Murrell, life without glasses is something she's been dreaming about for quite a while. "I’ve been wearing glasses since I’ve been a little kid and children are unfortunately cruel and I’ve been called a lot of names and stuff like that and its just always a dislike of glasses and I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and not have to deal with the glasses," she says.

These essay winners will receive free Lasik surgery. The normal cost is between $1,400 and $1,999 per eye.

This is very nice of them to do this but I have 1 question...what about the people who are "blue color workers" who pay taxes, support their local communities, have health insurance & in need of it too but can't afford it....what about help for them too????
