Paulig Eye Surgery Centre First to Offer Innovative Keratoconus Treatment in Germany

The center prepares to welcome patients from throughout Europe

COTTBUS, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Paulig Eye Surgery Centre announces today that it has acquired advanced technology for performing Keraflex KXL, a new, non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for keratoconus. Surgeons at the Paulig Eye Surgery Centre will immediately begin treating patients using Avedro, Inc’s Keraflex ® and KXL™ Systems.

“to have been chosen to be a participant in Avedro’s International Keratoconus Registry. Knowledge acquired through this registry will certainly contribute to improving the treatment of keratoconus patients and is sure to have an impact on Keratoconus globally.”

Keratoconus is a debilitating visual impairment for which there are limited treatment options. Using the Keraflex System, a non-surgical microwave device, keratoconic corneas can be gently reshaped in a simple procedure that lasts only a few seconds. Following corneal reshaping, the cornea is then strengthened and biomechanically stabilized in a procedure taking only minutes using Avedro’s KXL System for accelerated cross-linking. Until now, there has been no treatment to non-invasively reshape a keratoconic cornea and prior cross-linking alternatives required one hour to complete.

Dr. Sylvia Paulig is an innovator and international leader in providing comprehensive eye care. She states, “The combined technology and procedures that Avedro has made available to the Paulig Eye Surgery Center offers our keratoconic patients a non-surgical alternative to correct their vision adversely affected by keratoconus and then quickly and efficiently stabilizing and halting the progression of their disease. We are finally able to offer our keratoconic patients a fast, safe, non-invasive treatment and alternative to corneal transplant.”

“Our internationally recognized staff is pleased and gratified,” Dr. Paulig continued, “to have been chosen to be a participant in Avedro’s International Keratoconus Registry. Knowledge acquired through this registry will certainly contribute to improving the treatment of keratoconus patients and is sure to have an impact on Keratoconus globally.”

The LASIK laser eye surgery information and LASIK surgeon directory website http://www.seewithlasik.com is pleased to announce that it has added an “Ask LASIK Surgeons” interactive dialog feature to the site to further enhance the ease with which potential LASIK patients can ask questions about their eye surgery situation or laser treatment needs.

North Andover, MA (PRWEB) May 06, 2011

The LASIK laser eye surgery information and LASIK surgeon directory website seewithlasik.com is pleased to announce that it has added an “Ask LASIK Surgeons” interactive dialog feature to the site to further enhance the ease with which potential LASIK patients can ask questions about their eye surgery situation or laser treatment needs.

“We have added this feature as a 'help vehicle' whereby a patient can visit seewithlasik.com and click on Ask LASIK Surgeons where they find a section that allows them to write questions they would like to have answered by experienced LASIK surgeons. We then provide these questions to our LASIK Editorial Advisors for review, comment and answer and post the answers to the SeeWithLasik Blog so that the question and the Editorial Advisors’ answer is visible for the initiator as well as others who might have a similar question to read,” said Katherine Carlisle, Managing Partner of seewithlasik.com.

Laser eye surgeons agree that the decision to have Laser Eye Surgery such as LASIK Eye Surgery should be made only after having a thorough evaluation and consultation with a skilled and experienced eye surgeon. It is often useful to be able to ask others for opinions and options so that patients are well informed prior to and even after their consultation should they have questions. “The ultimate resource for professional advice and information is your own LASIK eye surgeon,” said Ms. Carlisle.

In order to provide consumers with the most unbiased information, unlike many websites offering information about LASIK, seewithlasik.com does not accept funding, support or advertising of any kind from pharmaceutical, medical device, laser or lens implant manufacturers.

What is the laser, all LASIK? Do you need it?

If you are interested in Laser Vision correction procedures to improve your eyesight, LASIK, you may have heard of the eye surgery before. It is all over the place.

But what is the laser, all LASIK?

And more importantly, need it?

The most important things first, what is the laser, all LASIK?

All-Laser LASIK refers to a new type of LASIK eye surgery is called IntraLASIK or Bladeless LASIK. IntraLASIK procedure employs two types of lasers (Femtosecond laser and Excimer laser) to correct your vision.

All-laser LASIK may have a certain appeal, as the case may be, because of the placing on the market to understand the other lasers, the laser is a good one, two-term must be even better.

However, good to know that all the procedures, including LASIK, Bladeless LASIK performed the same thing:

When told of how LASIK is performed, it is learned that the Corvette is a hinged corneal LASIK eye surgery, the most serious step.

LASIK Microkeratome

All-laser LASIK and the difference between the conventional LASIK LASIK Surgeon is how to create the corneal flap.

Conventional LASIK, your surgeon will not be able to use the synchronization program for your hand-held device, known as the microkeratome to create your own Corvette cutting the entire cornea. The intersection of the Microkeratome is derived from metal blade, which is powered by electro-mechanical system.

All-laser LASIK Surgeon in your customer's femtosecond laser microkeratome blade to create a microkeratome LASIK corneal boasts, in the course of the procedure.

Both types of LASIK Corvette after creation, then out of the way; excimer laser makes it possible to fold the Corvette reshapes cornea Corvette in the device. Finally, the original paragraph is replaced by the Corvette, which covers the area in which the corneal tissue was removed.

LASIK flap

Microkeratome Corvette is the meniscus-shaped (i.e., in the midst of a thicker and thinner from the static). Expands the dimensions of its creation is due to various factors, such as the steepness and each individual cornea thickness.

IntraLase laser microkeratome is more specific than a microkeratome blade. It creates the exact thickness of the LASIK flap, the surgeon and the depth of the specified diameter. So is the same as the thickness of the IntraLase Corvette, and in the middle of the ring.

The name comes from the combination of IntraLASIK femtosecond laser manufacturer (IntraLase, Inc., Irvine, California), and the name of LASIK.

IntraLase-laser was the first commercially available in the femtosecond laser LASIK, Bladeless gained Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2001.

After this, many laser manufacturers have introduced other femtosecond laser systems, in accordance with the terms of the different level of trade. These conditions are not of particular interest to non-restricted, in particular, lasers, in particular the laser manufacturer.

All-laser LASIK (Bladeless LASIK) types

Many of these femtosecond laser systems can be combined with any of the approved excimer laser system with bladeless LASIK flap.

Typically, conventional LASIK and bladeless LASIK is a few complications with comparable results in clinical trials, the FDA has announced.

If you're an ideal candidate for conventional LASIK, all-Laser Lasik is the appropriate option. Most of the patients on the all-laser LASIK over conventional LASIK with microkeratome, will be taken into account in the selection.

If you have a large Fold of thin corneas, or any other condition that circumvention practices, makes it to the conventional LASIK, LASIK for all laser may be a requirement that gives the opportunity to work with other LASIK procedure. Look, if you're a good candidate for laser eye surgery bladeless.
